Tails of Three Cats
What is one to do when you go out into your yard only to find a young cat just hanging out? Wasn't anything I did to deserve their immediate attention, but our last three cats just showed up and adopted us. You would think I had this huge neon sign on my roof advertising to the neighborhood: Calling All Cats….Free Food and Shelter.
Was about thirteen years ago this tiny female black and white tabby was on top of the spa dancing. My wife wants to point out that she was two stepping so she must be a country puss. Anyway here is this kitten about 6 or 7 months old not only two stepping but vigorously wagging her tail like a dog would.
Not sure why I commanded her to roll over but having been raised up with and old English sheep dog it just seem appropriate. To my surprise the kitten did just that. Oh shucks I said, she is either lost or just doing a morning stroll around the block so we spoke with a bunch of the neighborhood kids, (if anyone knows, they will), and they looked at the kitten and shook their heads saying no. One little girl said it looked like Princess but the family recently moved so she did not think so. Interesting info but the kitten did not respond to the name Princess.
So after canvassing the lost pet ads and looking at posters on nearby poles there was no one searching for a lost kitten so we took her to the veterinarian who said she was already fixed but had asthma. It seems that she was abandoned by her previous owners so we decided to keep her provided our existing cat would accept her.
Our nineteen old Siamese cat who was recently blind from glaucoma did not mind. He was in a different world by the time this kitten arrived and as long as she stayed out of his way he was ok with her. I am amazed as to how adaptable a cat can be without sight. He would find his way out through two cat doors to access the back yard and make it back without any assistance.
Giving the kitten a name took some time because we kept coming up with dog names because of her habits so we finally settled on Sade-Choops, or the Choopster for short. Please don't ask how we got to this but it was cemented in stone and Sade she was.
Sade ruled the roost and it wasn't much longer our Siamese passed so she became queen of the house. Please understand this cat actually ruled with authority and command and heaven forbid should any other animal approach her domain!
Well about three years ago a young black and brown tabby showed up next door. I knew that it was unlikely that the kitten belonged to our neighbors and I suspected it to be a stray or feral. This cat would show up in the back yard and Sade would chase the kitten away. This went on for at least a month. I finally took pity; woe is me, and started leaving food on the other side of the fence.
We were immediately adopted and the "tom" cat lived in the front yard for about another month. Since we had daily contact it was not too long before the kitten allowed us to pet him and as soon as he was comfortable with that it was off to the veterinarian for shots and neutering. I decided to name him Tom-Tom after my first childhood cat.
Before the fixing at the vet's office we introduced Tom-Tom to a litter box and you would have thought he was a kid on recess. He played and rolled and threw litter up in the air for a good half hour. What I would give today to have that on video. Once he was fixed we allowed him to come inside and he took to that very quick. Sade was totally upset and made no bones about hissing and fussing at Tom.
Sade had several cat beds around the house both inside and outside so soon she made it clear to Tom that these areas were her domain and to stay out these areas or else! Tom enjoyed high places so he would end up on the roof chasing birds and other neighborhood cats from roof top to roof top. Both cats were successful hunters and often brought their prey in to show off. Not a marriage made in heaven but both cats seemed to work out their territory rights and seldom had a cat fight although Sade would howl like Tom was getting her even though he did nothing but pass by.
Tom-Tom was a very aggressive alpha male as a youngster chasing most any animal his size without second thought. He did mix it up with many of the cats roaming around day or night. Like fine wine, Tom has mellowed out gracefully over the past couple of years, and is actually becoming somewhat of a lover boy. I would never have predicted the aggressive kitten to turn out this way and what a pleasant surprise this is.
About three years had passed since Tom's arrival and one spring night about eleven o'clock my wife heard a lot of cat noise in the backyard. Not cat fight noise but more distress "hey wake up" noise. Since my wife is a lite sleeper she was up and out the door before I could even stir out of bed. She came running in claiming that Tom has trapped another animal in the corner of the yard. She though it was another cat but it was dark and very small so she said it could be a rat.
So on came the long sleeves and gloves and out the door with a flashlight I went to locate this mysterious animal. I saw Tom on top of the fence near the corner of the back yard looking down. We have a small star jasmine vine in the corner so I could not see what he was looking at. What a surprise I had when I turned on the flashlight and behind the vine was a small semi black kitten smaller than the palm of my hand.
We got the cat carrier and placed the tiny kitten inside it and we were going to leave it on the back porch. No way, this kitten had an incredible set of lungs and got to howling beyond belief so into the shed it went for the night. The next morning we were off to the vet for an examination. Turns out that this kitten was a torte and most are female. She was about four or five weeks old and definitely had worms which were treated. The vet thought she was recently weaned from her mother and took to cat food right away.
We had not named her yet but after some thought my wife selected its name. She named her Journey since she was on a journey to find us. We all bonded quickly except for queen Sade who was further put out that another cat was in the house. I will admit that Sade had some maternal instincts towards the kitten but could not show that in our presence.
We had been recently considering another cat for Tom-Tom to play with because he just loves to play. Tom will play with rubber balls for hours on end. Well Tom went ballistic over Journey; in fact he was head over heels, jump for joy bonkers over this tiny kitten. We were initially petrified since Tom was a twelve pound cat and Journey was less than a pound.
One could not believe how a tiny kitten held her own to an alpha male cat. She literally bosses Tom around and of course Tom treated her very gently. I was impressed that his instincts told him to be gentle and not too aggressive in play. Only a handful of times did we have to break up the play because he had he pinned with all of his weight on her. Over time her longer legs became a huge factor during their matches which I made several videos.
Tom and Journey are like best buds and defiantly a match made in heaven for those two. Sade is still the reigning queen who often feels that her throne has been stolen by the other two cats. Tom and Journey get to playing on the thirty year old kitty condo and it is quite a sight to see two cats flying around this structure.
We could not have asked for a better bunch of cats and all of them just showed up. Who knows if we can actually manifest these events but one thing is certain, they make it known that they adopted us and will keep us around for a while. Hence the tale, or better yet, should I say the tails of three cats.

Phoenix worms are best to use as a treat for an ADULT Bearded Dragon, and shouldn't really be fed to a juvenile.
Jouvies need 80% protein (gotten from the chinin of insects like crickets and roaches), and 20% greens. The best thing to do is feed him as many appropriately sized crickets (no bigger then the length between his eyes) twice a day. Give him greens like kale or collard greens at least 4 times a week, and fruit at least once a week. Make sure not to feed him anything you get from outside as it could contain pesticides.
