Please Help A New Fisherman?
ive been spending more and more time on the river lately i live in lynchburg va and i fish the james river i usually fish off the shores of the islands or occasionally out a little ways on a boat. i remember some things about fishing from all those camping trips with my dad, but im having little to no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions like where good spots are what kind of lure do i use and what bait? im using the ugly stik Shakespeare and i have my freshwater license. pretty much anything anyone says would be helpful at this point thanks.
Not familiar with that area or lake. What are you wanting to catch? Also, there are a few basic things about fishing that work, regardless of where you are. It is important to learn the habits of your target fish. All fish like certain depths at certain times of the year. Also, "humps" or "drop-offs" , which are places with fairly sudden depth change, are good places for nearly any fish. I would suggest finding a bottom map, one that shows the features of the lake, such as where drop offs are at, so you can learn where to fish. Also, a good general rule is that larger predatory fish will be near smaller bait fish. Researching your target fish can help you tremendously, also. Learn the habits of the fish and what baits it is more prone to hit and when. This is very basic, being from a different location and unfamiliar with your particular location. Start off doing this, and you may find yourself catching more fish,
