How can I help my 6 1/2 month old learn how to crawl?
I read in my parents mag that kids start crawling around 6 months. My son isn't even up on hands and knees yet. I'm not complaining or anything or saying he's behind, I'm just wondering how I can help him get to the next step. I put him on his belly and put toys a little bit out of his reach, and he wiggles and tries to get to them, but then gives up after a minute and just sucks his thumb and takes a nap!!
Any suggestions?
As I am sure you have realized not all children are the same! So you can't take something out of a magazine as the words of God!
Your son will crawl in time, as someone said before, some kids walk before they crawl, my cousin never crawled and started walking at 10 months!
I don't know if it actually worked or not but my parents use to tell me brother and I that our Great Uncle would take a think blanket or towel and lay it on the floor then put out stomachs on it. Then he would lift it up so it lifted us by our stomach just so that our knee's were touching the floor and our hands could still touch the floor. Then he would walk us through the house like that! My parents said my brother and I absolutly loved it, would giggle the whole time. My Great Uncle Joe always said he was teaching us how to crawl! Weather or not it actually taught us how to crawl earlier or not who knows...we both started crawling at the exact same time (at 6 months and 3 weeks) and we were 3 years apart!
Good Luck, if you don't see any interest in moving I would mention something to his doctor!
