The Proper Use and Care of Medical Instruments
If you're a medical student or a doctor then you may need to know how to use basic surgical instruments big mis-conception is that only surgeons need to know about surgical instruments. Sometimes in a clinic you may be faced with a case where you may use surgical instruments. Therefore knowledge about common medical instruments will keep you 1 step ahead.
Dissecting forceps is one of the many most familiar surgical instruments. These forceps also is known as the Mitchell's forceps. It's a non-dissecting forceps and can be used to hold things like blood vessels. You may wonder how to hold dissecting forceps? You want to hold it between your thumb and index finger... kinda of like how you would a pen.
Let us move on to a different category which is scissors. Unfortunately unlike most surgical instrument sets this does not fall into the orthopedic instruments category. A scissor is usually used to cut structure. The 2 different types of scissors are curved scissor and straight. One of the most common scissor is called the metzenbaum. Its mainly used for cutting more finer tissue such as a bladder or muscle tissue.
The best way to hold the scissors straight is to put your index finger on the joint of the scissors. This makes sure the scissors is more firmly held and keeps a more controlled movement. If your not careful and dont hold the scissors appropriately then you may end up cutting more of what you intend to do. So always support the scissors with your finger from the reverse hand. Another way to regulate how much you want cut is to place your opposite finger at a distance which will help guide your cut better.
surgical instruments are handled in three different phases. Pre-operative, intraoperative and post-operative task. The mixture of these three phases is referred to as the instrument cycle.
Preoperatively the medical instrument sets and other supplies are planed by the surgeon for his own choice. You should remove the surgical instrument sets after the medical container is opened. Surgical instruments and other medical supplies are gathered and prepared for use on the back table and mayo stand.
Intraoperative surgical instrument handling involves a complex set of critical thinking and complex task. The STSR must be able to anticipate or predict the needs of the patient or surgical team members. The skill to anticipate these needs is accomplished through knowledge of autonomy and the understanding of any variations that may be necessary to accommodate the patient. It is important that the STSR observe the progression of the procedure to obtain necessary information. The surgeon may request demands verbally or by hand signals. These are the names most commonly used by a surgeon… scalpel, hemostatic clamp, surgical scissors, tissue forceps, free tie, etc.
Hand signals work best because it keeps talking to a minimum. Additionally hand signals often replace verbal request if the patient isn't under general anesthesia. Postoperative instruments handling involves all the steps preparing surgical instruments for use. These steps include cleaning and decontamination, maintenance and inspection, preparation of the set, reassembly of the set, sterilization and storage.

Instruments should be fixed and restored without changing the finish.
3.) Needle holders: Should only be repaired on-site.
4.) The more technicians there are, the better for you.
5.) Instrument Tracking: The repair company should `provide this service for the practice.
6.) Broken Instruments: All instruments should be sent back to the hospital for warranty usage.
7.) Be sure to have the medical instrument repair buisness provide you educational services.
8.) Specialty Instruments: Yes, besides sharpening services, all complex specialty instruments should be done on on-site.
9.) Instrument Board: The back-up instruments are as important to be serviced as the surgical instrument sets.

I will be visiting from US and interested in buying some hand tools for a surgical practice.
