Bass Fishing Tips and Tricks
Fishing in the wind is really a pain sometimes, you get kickbacks and throw the lure out and feet landing about 10 in front of you. Fishing in the wind is horrible ... or is it? A friend and I went fishing in California some time after he spoke to a small lake that I liked to fish. When we started the lake was a bit chilly, but by the time he got there he was freezing. I do not remember that it was not so cold before and the wind was blowing at 30 miles per hour.
No real dress was hot, but my friend is wearing a coat. I went out of the truck and the wind and cold hit me and I froze to death within a second. He said he was going on and try fishing since I was a coat and headed toward the lake. I sat in the truck thinking how it must be freezing, and what a waste of time fishing would be especially in this wind. Well, about 5 minutes later, here comes carrying this low as they were over 5 pounds. You can understand my astonishment to see that underneath it says. He was a fisherman was happy and warm, but no fish. Therefore, let's talk about what the wind really well as a pain and gives kickbacks.
First, a wind that will shake the larva of the weeds and grass. This is the main food of the bait. The bait is to eat and guess what? Therefore be low. The wind made the waves hit the shore and make the muddy water. Under cloudy water used as an ambush point. In general, stay on the edge of different color, where the water becomes colored clay.
The wind can move the hot water at a different location or if it is a north wind can move the cold water to a hot place. If hot water is then moved're in luck. Conversely Visa is not the best for catching bass. The light will be lower in the water as wind reduces light penetration. The same reason that fish in the early morning or evening will be a benefit to our fishing. Another thing that the wind does not get oxygen into the water which in turn can cause the fish to start biting.
So, as you can see there are many advantages to fishing in the wind. This is something I see all the time, even by some pro. Take your boat and go as far back can drift with the wind to bring back to a point where they started. This is a mistake, you want to fish in the wind. The reason being is what you want to fish slower lands not let the wind beyond its appeal before even in water.
I like to fish spinnerbaits when the wind blows hard, one hand is easier to detect a strike. Pesco more like a worm, but then the usual method of a spinnerbait. I dropped it and use the tip of the rod to pass then dropped again. I work just fast enough to prevent bottom trawling. The next time you take a little low and you think the wind blows very hard, just think of some of the benefits it produces.

What is the best spinnerbait to use for Spring bass fishing?
I mean size, blades, colors, etc. I will be fishing tournaments in April throughout Illinois.
I agree with Crosstown. Terminator spinnerbaits are an excellent brand- very durable! (Tu's to CT)
Size??- In my opinion, a 3/8 - 1/2 OZ works well for tournament conditions. (1/4 OZ can work but you'll have to cull through smaller fish and "time" is your worst enemy during a tournament).
Blades??- Depends on the water clarity and how aggressive the Bass are. I tend to favor a single Colorado for a lot of Spring time fishing. (A single Colorado puts out tons of lateral line disturbance.) But occasionally, I'll go with double Indiana's or double Willows. (Willows work esp well in heavily weeded areas- their shape allows the spinnerbait to not get fouled as much.) It really depends on the conditions.
Colors??- Again, this depends on the current conditions. A good "starting place" would be a White skirted spinnerbait with either a Chartreuse or "Clear/Red tip" trailer. Next- "White/Chartreuse Skirt". And then moving to "Fire-tiger" skirt (similar to what Crosstown mentioned) and finally "Red skirt".
There's a reason tournament pros carry a large variety of spinnerbaits. So they can make "on the water" decisions as to what will be the best color. A simple, (color, weight, blade) change can make a HUGE difference in how many fish you catch!
Also: Remember, a spinnerbait is a "reaction strike" lure designed to cover water quickly. If you are fishing it as slow as your Soft Plastic's your wasting your time........
