This is embarrasing - sparky came round and simply switched on the s/f spur that my 18mth old daughter had turned off!! I should've known this - worked for an electrical wholesalers for 4 years! Do'h!
Usually if the display fades the timer still works, it sound like you may have lost power and the backup battery (if fitted) has gone flat?? Check that the fuse is ok, it may be in the connection unit next to the controller. Otherwise there may be a small 'reset' button on the rear
