trout fishing rod question?

i just bought a st. croix triumph 6' medium action rod paired with a shimano sedona 1000 fd reel. i will be using this setup mainly for trout, but will probably be using it for some small smallmouths. do you think this will be to big for trout? should i switch to an ultra light or light action?

It will be fine for many fish.

If you want to feel more of the fight or think the lighter tackle is easier to handle on UL then switch to that rig.
