I need help with my fish please!?
I have a male betta fish named swimmy =) anyway the problem is most of the time he lays on his side just laying there. And no he is not dead, because anytime I see that he's on his side when I'm wondering if he's dead, I tap on his bowl and he suddenly jerks upright and swims fast for about 10 seconds then goes on his side again. What's wrong with my fish? Just so you know he is fairly big for a fish, was the swimmiest one in the store when I got him, I use tap water for his bowl but put Betta Safe in the water so it's good and he eats 2-3 Betta Bites a day for food. 1 more thing just so I don't have to post a new question and waste all my points and time I had a mouse and the day before he died he just kept chattering his teeth, even when I picked him up he kept doing it why!?!?!? Thanks a lot bye!
I only tap on his fish bowl a few times a week, and sometimes when he's on his side I just look at him and he jults upright and starts swimming for a while!!!1!
I dont know about them being lazy- mine was very active.
What alot of people dont realise about siamese fighter fish is that they are actually tropical fish- they SHOULD be kept in tanks that carry at least 10 litres of water- and need to have heaters in the tanks- 30 degrees C being their optimum temperature.
They are fine in tanks by themselves- but if you really want to care for your betta properly it should be in a proper tank.
Those small ones need cleaning regularly- ideally you should be running a filter as well.
If you are keeping him in a tank its also possible that there is something wrong with the water. Its good to have a pH test kit lying about to see if there is something wrong with that acidity or alkalinity of the water. Im not sure what their optimum pH is, though- you would have to talk to someone at a pet store or research bettas a bit more.
Bettas also enjoy eating bloodworms- I usually cut a little bit out of a block to feed them. As far as I know they can eat bloodworms quite regularly.
With the water at optimum temperature your fish will be more active and need to eat more.
As for the mouse- animals chatter their teeth for a number of reasons.
Rats will chatter their teeth when they are happy- and some other animals do that as well.
But animals will also chatter their teeth when they are extremely stressed- and this sounds more like the case with your mouse. Cant tell you exactly what happened to it without more information. Mice have a life expectancy of about 2 years- which isnt very long. If it was also puffed up it was probably sick.
