Recipe for Super Homemade Catfish Dough Bait
Making your own catfish dough bait is not very difficult. You only need a few ingredients and a little bit of patients to make this basic recipe. Once you get the hang of it you will be making your own bait without even thinking about it.
Below you will find one set of instructions used for making this very successful bait.
Start by adding 1.5 cups of cornmeal, a cup of flour and a little anise oil to a pot and place over medium heat. Add about 1/2 of a bottle of big red or similar product. Now stir constantly until the dough becomes stiff and a little sticky.
Lay out some wax paper and sprinkle some flour on it. Pour the dough mixture out on top of the flour and kneed together in the same fashion you would use to kneed dough for a loaf of bread. Continue to add flour as needed over the course of about fifteen minutes.
This process has two purposes. It reduces the stickiness and it causes gluten to form which is what will keep the dough on the hook when you go fishing. You can now freeze the super homemade catfish dough bait until you are ready to use it.
Of course, this is just one variation of the super catfish dough bait. There are many other ways to make it and other ingredients that can be added to the mixture to give it that special touch. Get some shrimp from the grocery store, this recipe calls for 1 pound
put them in a zip lock and add the following:
1 cup salt
1 cup garlic powder
1/4 cup of Tabasco sauce
1/2 of a red onion cut up really fine.
4 tablespoons of anise (crushed)
Mix well making sure that each shrimp gets coated.
seal the bag and leave it in the direct sunlight for 12-15 hours depending on the outside heat (less time the hotter it is), you don't want them to fully cooked OR put them in a sealed coffee can, for 3 or 4 days with the bag open till they start smelling really tasty.
